Tom Mac Group

Project

Tom Mac Group came in with no website, a dormant Facebook page, and no Instagram presence. What they did have was a wealth of stories, decades of musical history across jazz, American, British, and Latin music, and a clear goal — to position themselves as a festival-ready band capable of headlining major stages.

The project started with listening. Before any design decisions were made, I spent significant time talking with Tom about the band's history, individual backgrounds, and where they wanted to go. That conversation shaped everything — the palette, the structure, the tone. The goal wasn't to build another generic band site. Jazz musicians with real backgrounds and real personality deserved something that felt like them.

I presented the color palette and site structure, and we refined the direction over four months. The palette — orange, deep teal, warm peach, and burgundy — was chosen to feel warm, bold, and distinctly non-generic. When the band's professional photography came back, the tones aligned perfectly with what we had built. Typography pairs Anton for headlines — heavy and commanding — with Epilogue for body copy, keeping the site readable without losing its character.

The copy was collaborative — Tom wrote the band bios and background paragraphs, while I wrote the teaser copy and section framing, calibrated to sound like the band rather than a marketing brochure.

With no existing logo, I created a simple TMG wordmark using the site's teal as a foundation — functional enough to launch on, flexible enough to hold across the website and new social media accounts until a full logo identity is developed.

The project ran in phases: website launch, a one-sheet designed for venue and festival vendors, and a full press kit. Each phase built on the last.
